Alpha Stone Works has been around long enough to see materials, trends, and techniques change—and to learn what actually works. What’s stayed constant is how we work: thoughtful craftsmanship, clear communication, and helping people make good decisions about their homes.
How We Work
We’re especially good at walking clients through projects. Stone comes with real trade-offs—between materials, details, budgets, and the realities of construction—and we take pride in explaining those clearly and honestly.
We enjoy the process, and that tends to make it more enjoyable for our clients too. Even when a project isn’t the right fit, we’re happy to talk things through and offer guidance.
Where We Came From
The company began in the 1970s when Glen Canfield started a small laminate countertop business in Sellwood, working out of a van with basic hand tools. Glen was a careful craftsman and a natural problem-solver, known for developing clean, nearly invisible seams.
That mindset carried forward as the business grew—first into tile, then into slab stone as the industry evolved.
Where We Are Today
Alpha Stone Works operates out of Milwaukie, working with natural stone, quartz, ultracompact, and recycled surfaces. We take on complex, custom projects that require careful planning, and we also enjoy the everyday kitchen and bath work that helps make homes function better.
Our team is small, experienced, and close-knit, and that shows in how we work together and in how we treat the people who trust us with their projects.
