Terazzo & Cementitious Surfaces
Terrazzo-style countertops are cement-based surfaces made with stone aggregates set in a binder, then ground and polished. They’re chosen primarily for their look—graphic, customizable, and architectural—rather than for mimicking natural stone.
These materials are available in a wide range of colors, aggregate sizes, and patterns, from subtle to expressive. Because terrazzo-style slabs are cast and finished at the factory, they offer design options that are difficult to achieve with quarried stone, while still being fabricated and installed like other slab materials.
Like other cementitious surfaces, terrazzo comes with trade-offs. It requires sealing and will show wear over time, especially in kitchens. When used in the right setting, it can be durable enough for everyday use, but it’s best approached as a design-forward surface where aging and patina are expected.
